Protocol architecture

A technical reading of the current testnet version: data, consensus, mining, money and public interface.

Reference: node 0.2.52 RC2 (genesis V5). This page describes the 0.2.52 sources. The number of parents, K, the finality and pruning depths, the maximum block size, the fee window and the maturity were re-checked in that code. The network is still a testnet: parameters and formats may change before a production release.

Version 2protocol and blocks

4 096maximum transactions per block

1. Data model

Parmeton follows a UTXO model: a transaction consumes existing outputs and creates new ones. Owners are identified by Ed25519 public keys. The validated state is summarised by a state root, exposed by wallet and output reads.

A coin is identified by the pair txid + output_index. Amounts are counted in atoms, with nine native decimals. Addresses in 0.2.52 carry the prefix pmn (tpmn on testnet).

2. DAG and consensus

A block can reference up to 16 parents. GHOSTDAG orders this graph with K = 124. The node maintains the tips, the selected parent, a virtual DAA score and a finalized point.

The finality depth is 432,000 DAA scores. The code computes a pruning point at 1,080,000 DAA. Pruning remains disabled.

3. Phi mining proof

The GPU miner submits a proof derived from the Phi-4-mini-instruct Q8_0 model. The node does not trust it: it replays the proof on the CPU, checks its binding to the model and to the block, then applies state and DAG validation before acceptance.

The 0.2.52 distribution provides mining kits for NVIDIA and Intel on Windows and an experimental AMD Vulkan kit for Linux. Observed capabilities and rejection causes can be read through the API.

4. Monetary policy

The initial schedule covers 21,000,000 PMN. A tail emission follows once the schedule is exhausted. At each emission, the gross reward depends on the remaining supply and on an integer-division carry. A reward factor, capped at one million ppm, can reduce the emission; the part not created is accounted for as forfeited supply.

The reward created is split 90% to the miner and 10% to the treasury. Maturity is set at canonical creation DAA + 10,000. Network fees and the first-spend tax are burned under the V4 monetary policy.

5. Network and persistence

The node exposes counters for peers, synchronisation, orphans, mempool and internal queues. Journal and checkpoint information also lets you follow the progress of the persistent state.

Paged storage publishes changes in batches. Storage checkpoints are used for recovery. The finalized point of the DAG follows a separate rule. A derived coin index per owner, disabled by default, speeds up wallet.getCoins without changing consensus. A full historical explorer remains to be built.

6. Public boundary

The existing interface is a read-only JSON-RPC 2.0 API. It listens by default on 127.0.0.1:19201 and implements no TLS, no authentication and no CORS.

The site publishes a seed snapshot over HTTPS. JSON-RPC requests remain private.
